Course description:
This course takes an in depth look at democratic governance in the continent. At the end of this module, these learners are expected to understand that democratic culture and practice are the guarantees of a lasting peace.
The modules will also touch on the principles of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, given their universality, interdependence and indivisibility. The mechanisms for the protection of human rights will also be covered.
Overall objective:
Consolidate learners' knowledge of the founding principles and fundamental values of democracy and human rights.
Specific objectives:
Understand basic principles of human rights and rights protection mechanisms in Africa
Provide content on democratisation, democratic pluralism and culture
Create a network of citizens aware of ACDEG's guiding principles on democracy and human rights
Format:
The course modules are in video format and available in a downloadable PDF format or as podcast excerpts.
Several types of resources and activities (video clips, external links, quizzes, interactive activities, etc.) are available.
Evaluation methods:
A quiz at the end of the course will allow participants to assess themselves. This evaluation will be based on the content of the videos.
In addition to this systematic evaluation, participants will have the opportunity to ask open questions on the MOOC forum.
